Shocking tribute on Google Maps: Traffic Victims Themselves Save Lives by Warning Drivers

What if a victim of a traffic accident could save lives?

StopAccidentes has created MemorialRoute, a digital memorial on Google Maps to raise awareness about road safety and prevent accidents every day, not just on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims.

This project is inspired by true stories, such as that of Julia Fernández, whose fate was irreversibly changed on a random street.
Throughout Spain, the roads are full of stories, like Julia’s, tragically representing the 1000 victims of traffic accidents in 2023.

ONE LOCATION, ONE STORY.

MemorialRoute uses the “Add Place” feature of Google Maps (normally used to add businesses, etc.), in a novel way: to prevent traffic accidents by adding memorials at the exact location where a victim died.

A tribute to each life lost to remember, and above all, to prevent future accidents. Behind every accident, there are more than flowers on the road. There are stories, loved ones and worlds that are forever changed. MemorialRoute fills the map of Spain with hundreds of names, stories and locations, reminding us that every number of victims is a unique and precious life.

IT’S NOT JUST NUMBERS

Knowing the stories of Natalia, Pablo, Javier, Jordi and so many others, together with the messages from their loved ones, is more powerful than any traffic campaign.

MemorialRoute becomes a vital resource for prevention, reminding us that behind everystatistic there is a face, a family and immense pain.

HONOURING THE PAST TO PROTECT THE FUTURE

MemorialRoute is a digital tribute that ensures that victims’ stories are not repeated. Join StopAccidentes on World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and discover MemorialRoute, where each marker tells a story that should never be forgotten.

“There is no better tribute than ensuring that their story is never repeated.”
